Pumpkin Weaving Craft

Picture
Easy, fun, and adorable preschool Halloween pumpkin weaving craft!

Fold a piece of orange paper in half.  Draw and cut the outline of a pumpkin.  Then cut slices into the folded edge, not cutting all the way to the edge.  Open up the paper.  Then weave pre-cut strips of black paper through the slits on the orange paper.

Complete the pumpkin with googly eyes and a jack-o-lantern nose!

Playdough pumpkin sensory station

So you know the song "Do you want to build a snowman? from Disney's Frozen?  Well, changing the lyrics to "Do you want to build a pumpkin?" is a great way to introduce this activity to your preschoolers.

Add orange playdough for the pumpkins and any other materials that you have around the classroom and invite your students to build their own pumpkins.  Add pumpkin spice to the playdough for extra sensory fun!

Cork stampers

Have a collection of corks sitting around?  Wrap them up in tape and make some cork stampers!  Great chunky grip for little hands.  We made flowers and mosaics, there are so many other design options to create!

Paint ice cube color melt mixers

Another fun and easy activity for the Summer months!  Teach a lesson about ice, melting, and freezing.  Talk about what happens when 2 colors are mixed together.

Bottle Cap Letter Match

Repurpose your bottle caps and turn them into a letter matching activity!

The letters are lined up in ABC order.

You can also use the foam numbers to make a number line matching activity as well.

Chenille Stem & Bead Obstacle Course

Making our own chenille stem and bead obstacle course was so much fun!  First we painted a piece of old foam board. Then we added chenille stems by poking through the foam board.  Beads were added throughout.  Pom Pom Trufula trees were also add later.  The kids added trains, play figures and cars and had a fantastic time!

Messy Paper Towel Roll Painting

Picture
Messy craft play is so much fun!

To make your own paper towel roll paintings:

1.  Add foam stickers to empty paper towel roll
2.  Roll the paper towel roll into a shallow tray of paint and then roll again onto a blank piece of paper.
3.  Repeat with new colors.

Allow children to design their own paper rolls with foam letters, numbers, shapes, etc.

Provide multiple trays of paint in different colors for a dramatic effect.

Day at the Lake

Picture
Lake Day!

Quotes from the kids' journals:  "We threw rocks."  "We fed the ducks."  "We played ball games."  "We collected shells."  "We had a picnic."

After field trips, the kids dictate what they did, what they learned, and what was fun.  I then print a picture that they paste to their paper for a keepsake of their day.

Later at home we also made a diorama of the goodies be collected at the lake. The kids painted the boxes blue and added a "beach scene."  I then wrapped it in clear wrap to keep the sand and shells from spilling out.

Picture
What to do with all those extra seashells!!!  Paint them, of course!
We painted the extra shells and then added them to a block of plywood that was covered in mosaic paste.  Fun project for preschoolers and older children!  A great keepsake from our day at the beach!
